Community Classes & Workshops

Knitting classes for children & young people from age 6 – After school & evening classes run during term times and workshops too. The classes gently build knitting & textile skills through a wide variety of simple & quick projects that each child can use their imagination to customise. The classes are small & very supportive but we have a lot of fun too!

I am passionate about teaching children to knit for the cognitive developmental benefits it offers but also to teach them a life skill, which can help build their confidence, improve self esteem and help them make friends.

Knitting helps kids:-

• Improve fine motor skills
• Practise their maths
• Unwind from electronic stimulation (and can be used at home for this purpose too)
• Use their imagination & creativity
• Make friends when they are ready (great for shy kids as the knitting acts as a barrier until they are comfortable to join in)
• For kids showing dyslexic tendencies/autism knitting can provide a tool for calm time at home and generally help those conditions with consistent practise

Given the impact of COVID-19 I have been running a kids knitting club in the background with material kits & videos and Zoom catch ups to keep the children busy during lockdown.  I also have some free videos on my Youtube channel which are easy, perfect for kids to have a try at home.  Check out my SHOP too for beginner kits & projects which are quirky and fun and gently build skills.  Message me if you would like more information about current options for children.

The emphasis in adult classes is to focus on the process of knitting (or crochet). With such focus then crafting independence can be achieved over time – a level of proficiency where you are not a slave to the pattern or the Youtube video!

You use your eye to make decisions about how you want your project to look and fix your own mistakes. When the knitting flows then the end products are worth waiting for!

Given the impact of COVID-19 my SHOP now includes online self-paced patterns & kits with relevant step by step video support.  Support-wise I am always happy to help or join our lovely family.  You can find us every 2nd Wednesday for a LIVE ZOOM Knit & Natter or via our private Facebook Group Knitting on Cloud Niners https://www.facebook.com/groups/1067934760211289 where I host a short “Just Knit with Me” every Monday at 8pm.  Just 9 minutes to just sit and pick up your project and feel the stresses of the day fade away.
