The Three C’s Of Knitting
1
CALM
Do you struggle to meditate or find a tool to help you switch off and relax? Then the soothing, regular, motion of knitting takes you to that place of relaxation without you having to do anything. And then there is the soft sumptuous, fluffy yarn that is passing through your fingers. Knitting is a tactile, sensory delight. Not to mention if you knit with friends or in a social group then the interaction & comradery will further enhance your peace & happiness.
2
CONNECT
There is much connectivity taking place. Connection with……
- the self – carving out some self-care & relaxation time.
- the project – unleash your creativity & feel the love through charity knitting or gifting.
- your knitting buddies – knit socially or go to a meet up & make new friends.
3
CREATE
Knitting allows creativity of shape, texture, colour and a totally unique, bespoke finished article. These can be cherished & admired (yes, be prepared for compliments……) for years. I try to consume consciously, buy sustainable, avoid throw away fashion. Imagine that every stitch is slowly knitted with love and imagine how that makes the receiver of a knitted gift feel. I used to tell my children that if they wore one of the jumpers I knitted for them, they would be hugged all day!
KNITTING’S USP!
What is specific to knitting as opposed to other crafts is that the unique movement of crossing your hands across the mid line of the body, is training for the brain. Yep, it helps to encourage the left and right hemispheres in your brain to co-ordinate better. My own personal research & experience has shown that consistent practise may benefit those with cognitive super powers, like dyslexia or autism. Another effect of knitting is that so much brain power is used for co-ordinating the movements that the monkey mind shuts off. Science is now confirming the mind health benefits of knitting.
These are the BIG reasons I am passionate about sharing the love of knitting.
